　　センター試験が来月に迫った。受験生は三社面談や模試の結果で受験校を絞り始めている。四日市高校志望だった子が、桑高にランキングを下げ、桑高志望だった子が川越に下げる。

　　京大志望だった子が阪大に下げ、名大志望だった子が三重大に下げる。それは、予備校の発表するランキング表を見ながら決めるわけだ。

　　The day of センター試験　is coming up soon. My students is now having a meeting with their teacher to decide whichschool’s exam they are going to take. Many of them have to give up taking the exam to a school which theyreally want to enter.  They decide itusing the list a big prep school prepared.

　　ここは現実的に考えてないと「不合格」になって、費用の高い私立高校に通うハメになったり、予備校通いになってしまう。人までランク付けするようで嫌な感じを持つ時期だ。

　　ここ三重県では、建前の教育が行われていて

「人間を学力だけで評価してはイカンよ」

　　と教える。まことに、ごもっとも。しかし、社会の仕組みがそうなっていないことも同時に教えるべき。

　　My students want to go to national universities because the tuitionfee is reasonable.  If they fail in theexam, they have to go to prep schools whose tuition fee is expensive. 

  Public school teachers often say

“School background is not important.”

  But such words don’t sound real tostudents.
