　たとえば、ここに有名な数学の問題がある。2003年の東大の入試問題：

「円周率が3.05より大きいことを証明せよ。」

　　さまざまな解き方が考えられるが、正八角形を用いた証明をした受験生が多いのではないだろうか。余弦定理で正八角形の周囲の長さを求めて、円周の長さと比較すれば済む。

　　勉強している方なら、これだけで

「あ、そうですね」

　　で終わるが、勉強していない人だと

「半径はどうするのですか？」

　　とか、

「√２の値はどうするのですか？」

　　といった質問を受ける。

he doesn’t understand it well.

　全く勉強していない子は

「余弦定理って、どんなのでしたっけ？」

　となる。そんな子では、国立大学の医学部とか、旧帝を受けるなんて無理。それなのに、

「それを何とかするのが塾講師」

　などと、のたまう人がたまにいる。√２が幾つかなんて、中学生でも知っている。余弦定理を覚えていないということは、勉強時間が全く足りていないか、勉強をヤル気が欠けているか、いずれにせよ難関合格など夢見てはいけないレベル。

Suchstudents cannot pass the entrance exams to good universities.

“Cramming school teachersshould help such students, too.”

But even junior high school students know what is √２. Such students must be lazy or don’t haveenough time to study.

　それは「意見」ではなくて、真剣に勉強したことがある人なら誰でも分かる「客観的事実」で、誰が考えても同じ結論になる普遍的な真理です。

「１＋１＝３　にしろ」

　と言われても、無理なものは無理なのです。

　私が冷静に言い渡すと、感情的に反発される保護者の方もたまにみえる。しかし、怒鳴っても、クレームを繰り返しても事実は覆りません。

　数学は２０００題ほど解かないと、公式や出題傾向、レベルが分かりません。そこまでやるのは遊び、趣味、デート、生徒会、クラブなどを犠牲にしてもやる抜く覚悟が必要です。

　それが出来ないなら、難関校の合格など考えない方がいい。

This is simplefact and truth. If you study hard, thisis easy to understand because this is just like “1+1=2”　　Ifsomeone says “1+1=3”, that iswrong even is someone shouts or angry.

Emotional reaction is useless.

In general, we have to solve more than 2000 math problems to reach theborder line to good schools. In somecases, we have to give up hobbies, dates or activities.

If you cannot do it, just give up the dream to good schools.

　　この現実を前に、感情で反応しても意味はない。感情的な人が、私をハゲと言うが事実だから腹が立たない。赤色を「アカ」と呼んで腹が立つだろうか。「名大のくせに」と言った方もみえたが、だから京大を受けて成績開示してみた。

　　事実を示せば済むこと。腹を立てても効果はない。

　　誹謗中傷する方は、自分が感情的に反応するから

「これで嫌な思いをするだろう」

　　と予想するのだろう。幼稚な頭の人に説いても仕方ないが、世の中には自分と違う種類の人間もいるのだ。

Again Isay emotional reaction is useless. Inthe case someone says I am bald-headed, I am not angry because it is just afact. Red is red. If a person calls the red car red, why do wehave to get angry?

“Your school background is Nagoya University.”

It is a fact. That is why I tookthe entrance exam to the University of Kyoto and showed the result when I haveto teach the students who were going to take the entrance exam.

There are some no emotional people.
