「私は感情になど興味はないｂｙ湯川」（１５）

　

　　努力し続ける限り「失敗の連続」となる。私は英語の資格試験を受けている頃に３９通の合格通知や不合格通知を受け取った。失敗の山だ。センター試験を１０回も受けたが、酷い点数の時もあった。京都大学を７回受けた時も連戦連勝というわけではなかった。

　　だから、今のレベルから過去を振り返ると無残なものだと思う。しかし、成長とはそういう悲惨な過去を山と作ることなのだ。

　　So long as we keep going forward, we cannotavoid making mistakes.  I got 39 postcardwhich told me the result of tests. Success and failure.  I took theentrance exam to the University of Kyoto 7 times.

 When I look back at what I did, I always have some regrets.  Growing up means many mistakes and failures.

　　自己嫌悪に陥りそうにもなるが、ここでも感情的な反応は禁物なのだ。

「そうです。私はバカです」

　　と開き直っておればいい。ありのままの自分を受け入れて他人と比べない方がいい。自分が一歩一歩前進することだけを考えればいい。他人などどうでもいい。だから、お一人様も悪くない生き方だと思う。

  We might yield to self-hatred at times.  Emotional emotions are not good.

“Yes, I’m stupid.”

  We don’t have to care what theysay.  We should accept what we arenow.  They have nothing to do withyou.  Living alone is not always bad.

 

    「ガリレオ」の湯川先生は、分からないことがあると

「実に面白い」　

　　というのが口癖だ。あまり気にせずに聞いている人が多いようだが、実はあれが勉強ができるか否かの分かれ道です。

　　京大の数学の過去問を見た時に

「おもしろそうだ」   

　　という子と、やりもしないのに名前負けして

「こんなの解けない」

　　という子がいる。前者の子は指導できるが、後者の子の指導は難しい。

  WhenYukawa has a difficult problem, he says

“This is very interesting.”

  And enjoysolving the problem.  That is the verypoint to success or failure.  When we seethe past math problem of the University of Kyoto, some students say

“This is very interesting.”

  And some students say

“This is too difficult for me to solve.”

  The former is easy to teach butthe latter difficult.
