　 何も分かっていない保護者の方がよく

「バンバン宿題を出してください」

　　と言われるが、それが最悪の勉強方法だと分かっていないらしい。そういう教育を受けてしまったのだろう。成績を上げる一番大切かつ不可欠の条件は、自発的にやることだ。強制されたら面白いと思えない。

　　実は、教師や塾講師の大半も

「勉強はつまらないもの」「強制されてやるもの」「できるやらやりたくない苦痛」

　　と思っている。だから、保護者に

「はい、うちの塾はバンバン宿題を出しますから」

　　と安請け合いをする。

　　Some parents whoknow nothing about entrance exams ask me to give a lot of homework to theirsons and daughters.  But it’s the worstway to study.  Maybe they had the samekind of teaching.  The most importantthing is to study spontaneously.

  If students are forced to study,the effectiveness is the worst.

  Some cramming school teachers alsobelieve that studying is not fun and push students to study.

　　そういう塾講師の方には永遠に私の塾に学力の高い子が集まる理由が分からないだろう。今までに、京大に合格するような高学力の生徒を指導した経験があれば、バンバン宿題を出すなんて無意味なことがたちどころに分かるはず。

　　そんなことをしたら、反発されて翌月には誰もいなくなるだろう。勉強が大嫌いな低学力の子たちには強制的にやらせるしかないから、宿題を出してやってきたかチェックしてがんじがらめにしないといけないけれど、そんな方法を自発的にやる生徒に用いたら終わりです。

  They neverunderstand why my school has many smart students.  If such teachers has tried to enter goodschools, they easily understand to force students to study is useless.

  If we force smart students tostudy and if it is a cramming school, they quit coming to the school nextmonth.  I know we have to do it to badstudents but we should not do it to good students.  We have to use different teaching way todifferent students.

　　自発的に勉強を始めようとしている時に

「勉強しろ！」

　　と言われたら、ヤル気がなくなった経験は誰にでもあると思う。人間は、強制されたり命令されたりするとヤル気がなくなるのが普通のこと。そんなことも分からずに「先生」をやっている人がなんと多いのだろう。

「実におもしろい」

　　と思える生徒が行き詰った時に手を貸すのが先生の仕事だ。

　　しかし、中学校にくる頃にはほとんどの生徒が間違った指導を受けて勉強嫌いになっている。そんな生徒を、勉強が面白いと思わせることはほとんど不可能に近い。

  When you begin to study and yourparents say that you must study, you lose enthusiasm to study.  We like to study spontaneously.  This is easy to understand but many teachersdon’t know.

 Many students around 13 already have no enthusiasm to study and let themlike studying is almost impossible.

　　ほとんどの保護者の方と学校の教師は、勉強の好きな子の気持ちが分かっていない。それは、勉強ができた経験がないから無理もない。

「学校の先生は勉強ができたはず」

　と言われるかもしれないが、同級生を思い出してほしい。

「学年でトップクラスだった子たちは学校の先生をしていますか？」

　私の同級生はしていない。上位だった子たちは、医者、官僚、弁護士や公認会計士、商社マンなどになっている。塾の卒業生も、優秀だった子たちは同じ傾向にある。

「学校の先生は、イマイチだった子たちがなる」

　というのが実態だ。

 Most parents and teachers don’t understand howsmart students feel about the present school and teachers.  That is natural because they were not goodstudents when they were senior high school students.

“Is the top student working in the teaching field?”

  Think about your old classmates.  Maybe the answer is negative.  In my case, good students became bureaucrats,doctors, lawyers and professors.  Notteachers.
