私だけが知っている京大、東大、名大、阪大合格の秘訣（１１１）

　美人にコロっとイカれてしまう男子を見ながら女子が

「あの子嫌い。本当は腹黒なのに、なにアレ！」

　と言うのを聞くことがある。

    Seeing some boys are chasing after nice looking girls, some smart girls say

“What stupid boys!  She is ugly in heart.”

   それは、塾講師にも当てはまる。生徒や父兄を相手にする時は、ニコニコ笑顔で対応するけれど、講師室にもどると

「あのバカ親子が！」

　と言うのをよく聞いた。名古屋の７つの予備校、塾、専門学校で１４年間指導させてもらったが、どこでも同じことだ。

   Private school teachers are the same.  I worked for 7 big private schools in Nagoya and met many teachers.  They are just like nice looking girls.  A techer was talking with a student and his parents with a smile but after they left the school, he came back to a faculty room and said

“Stupid boy and mother!”

　私など紳士で、どんな生徒や父兄にも正直に対応してきた。すると、同僚は

「適当におだてておけばいいんだよ、高木先生」

「そうそう、どうせバカなんだから何を言っても分からない」

　という先生も多かった。

    I'm a gentleman compared with him and always talk with students sincerely.  Then sometimes my coleague said

“You don't have to talk with them honestly.  They are not smart enough.”

　確かに正直に、真面目に対応しても分かってくれる人ばかりではない。しかし、毎日そういう先生たちに接している生徒は営業スマイルなのか本気なのかは分かる。だから、私の支持者はどの塾や予備校でも高かった。　

    They are partly true because even if we talk honestly, some got mad at what we said.  So just say yes, yes and yes might be better than honesty.  But I couldn't do it.  Smart students understand what going on in front of them and liked my way of teaching.

　もちろん、どこでも反発する子はいた。全員の支持は得られない。でも、酒井法子さんや、ベッキーさんのように、いくら美人でも本質は腹黒であることはバレる日が来る。大勢の人を長期間だますことは出来ない。

    Of course, there were some people who criticized me and disliked me always.  However, bad personality appears before people some day.  It is impossible to deceive many people for a long time.

　３０年間、批判や誹謗中傷を受けながらも何とかやってこれたのはウソを言わずに対応してきたからだと思う。生徒が英検を受けると言えば、一緒に受け、京大を受けると言えば、一緒にセンター試験を受けてきた。

  I believe the reason why my school has existed for 30 years is that I've been honest.   When my students sat for Step test, I sat for it, too.  When they took the entrance exam to the University of Kyoto, I took it, too.

　合格するためにやらなければならないことはハッキリしている。盲腸の手術のように「やるべきこと」がハッキリ分かっている。

「手術は絶対にイヤだ」

　と言われても、

「では、死んでください」

　としか言えないくらいハッキリしている。治療に多少の痛みも我慢しなければならない。費用もかかる。仕事を休み、楽しいこともできない。食べるものも制限されるかもしれない。

   We know what we should do to prepare for the exams.  It is just like the operation for the appendix.  It might be painful but if we say we don't want to have any pain, then

“Then just die.”

  We have to accept some pain and spending money.  We might have some food limitation.

　受験勉強もそういうものなのに、苦痛は絶対にイヤだ。クラブも生徒会も趣味も犠牲はイヤだ。でも、難関合格はしたい。

   The preparation for the test is the same.  I never stop the club, the students body and my hobby.  No sacrifice.  But I want to pass the exam.

　生まれつきすごい才能の子は可能だろう。でも、ほとんどの子は何かを犠牲にして、何かを手にする。二兎を追うものは、二兎を失う。

  Very few students can do it.  But if you cannot, you have to put priority on studying.

   親切心で語ると誹謗を受け、サギ師のように

「これを聞けば英語が身につく」

　のようなインチキ商売がウケる。これでは、同僚講師に言ったように

「適当に言っておけばいい」

　という処世術も説得力をもつ。でも、私はその道を行かない。それは、長い目で見ると破滅するからだ。私には常に支持者がいたし、今もいる。

    When we are honest, we are sometimes criticized. 

“You can easily master English listening to this tape.”

    They are happy to pay a lot of money for these bad learning materials.  So  what my coleagues say might be true.

    But I won't do it.  For me, that is the way to bankrupt.

四日市高校

    それでも、ＡＫＢの尻を追いかける男子は山ほどいる。ジャニーズ系に夢中になる女子もいる。それが彼らの人生だから、私には関係がない。私に出来ることは、誠実に真摯に塾生の子に対応するだけだ。

   We always have the boys who love foxy girls and girls who like sexy entertainers.  That is their life and I have nothing to do with them.  What I can do is to give the best service to my students.

　３年連続で京都大学の合格者が出て、桑名や四日市から生徒が逆流して通ってくれている。通信生は北海道から鹿児島までいる。美人が長持ちしないことを知っている子はいるし、性格美人になりたい子もいる。

　私はＡ子ちゃんのように、誠実に生きたい子しか相手にしない。

    For 3 consecutive years, my school has had the students who passed the entrance exam to the University of Kyoto.  The correspondent course students are from Hokkaido to Kyushu.

   Nice looking doesn't last long.  I'd like to teach only behaved students.
