Chapter 4 Birth of Setsuden-mushi (a profitmaking device) 4.4 COP3 (Kyoto Conference on Global Warming Prevention) 4.4.3 Contribution of Technical Paper
Although
the Setsuden-mushi was introduced to many media in 1997, I did not have any
opportunity to explain, contribute, or give a lecture on the Setsuden-mushi in
detail on a professional or technical level until the end of 1997, three and a
half years after its development.
However, on December 4, 1997, I received a phone call requesting me to write an article for a technical journal, which gave me my first chance to introduce Setsuden-mushi in detail and technically.
It was a request from the editorial department of a technical magazine called "Denshi Gijutsu (Electronic Technology)," which explains in an easy-to-understand manner the application of electronic devices and components, as well as the circuit and system design of electronic equipment. I was asked to write an article for the following year's March 1998 issue, which was to feature electronic devices with the theme of power-saving and high-efficiency design. The technical magazine "Electronic Technology" is one of the technical magazines edited and published by the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun Publishing Bureau.
The content of the article was to be 24 pages of 170-character manuscript paper, with about 10 figures, tables, and photographs, and the deadline for manuscripts was January 10.
The specifics of the writing request were as follows.
(1) Standby electricity consumption of fax machines for home use
(2) What is a power saving device for fax machines?
(3) Circuit technology of power saving devices for fax machines
(4) Future issues
Since I did not foresee any major difficulties in writing any of these contrents, I gladly agreed to do so. I started to write the manuscript with the goal of submitting it by the end of December, and finished it by Christmas 1997 and sent it to Mr. Kazukuni Yamazaki, the editor.
The manuscript was edited by January 28, 1998 and the March issue was published by Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun Publishing on February 10, 1998.
It was the first time for me to be paid for writing something other than technical translation, which is my main business.
