Wow! Here comes Setsuden-mushi.! Chapter 4 Birth of Setsuden-mushi 4.5 Standby Power Consumption 4.5.1 Amount of generated electricity and Amount of saved electricity
The definition of standby power consumption, in general, seems to be a generic term for the power that equipment continues to consume while not in use or waiting for some instruction.
This standby power consumption is a major factor in the increased demand for electricity used from power outlets, and is said to account for about 10% of residential electricity consumption. In addition, the ongoing digitalization is one of the causes of the increase in standby power consumption.

Now, if approximately 10% of total household electricity use is standby electricity consumption volume (or charge), what is the absolute volume (or charge)?
According to the results of a survey on standby power consumption of home appliances announced by the Energy Conservation Center, Japan, on August 2, 2000, the relationship between annual standby power consumption (amount) and annual standby power consumption (amount) that can be saved is as follows.
1. Annual household average standby power consumption reached 398 kWh (9,800 yen)
2. It was 9.4% of all electricity consumed in the home.
3. Of that amount, 42% (= 167 kWh, 4,116 yen) can be saved by unplugging the power supply when not in use.
