In the process of memorization, increase the opportunities for pronunciation and writing. It will help you for sure. How to create opportunities for writing, speaking, and communicating is to be explained later.
If you don't like a thin grammar book, start with NHK's Basic English I on the radio. The NHK's Basic English radio course has 3 levels from I to III（subject to change). Judging from your current skills, you could start with NHK's Basic English I. It may be possible to do all of them at once over the course of a year.
Even if you continue this study for the rest of your life, you will discover something new every day. That's because NHK's textbooks are so carefully prepared and wonderful. Even now, at my age of 75, I start my day with NHK's Basic English radio programs as part of my daily routine.
The way I study using this radio English programs is as follows.
1) Without looking at the textbook, you make notes of the skits and example sentences in 15 minutes while listening the instructor's and guest's explanations, and following skit practice, word pronunciation, sentence pronunciation practice, and example sentence practice from the radio.
(2) You leave blank the words that you cannot write or do not know during the skit writing process.
(3) After 15 minutes of study, you open the textbook for the first time and correct the skit sentences you have written. You write mistakes and blanks in red to find your weaknesses and reflect on them later.
(4) You keep the notes you have made and corrected for a certain period of time as they are your property.
