　「名古屋大学ラブ・ストーリー（７）　部落差別」

　　今となっては意味がないのだが、健二は「部落」という言葉が気になっていた。姉が二人いたが、健二だけ大学に行かせてもらった。親の期待を裏切りたくなかったし、老後の世話もするつもりだった。

 

　  It is useless to regretit, however Kenji is thinking about Buraku.  He has two elder sisters and he is the onlyone who went to university.  He wants tomeet his parents’ expectation.  He wantsto take care of his parents.

 

　ただ、貴子との結婚の反対の理由が「部落」と言われても当時は何も分からず調べもしなかった。しかし、全てが終わってしまった今になって気になりだした。ネットで調べた健二は次の説明を見つけた。

 

　When Kenji’s motheropposed to his marriage because of Buraku, Kenji was not interested in it at that time.  However he wants to knowabout it and tries to check it.

結婚差別

部落出身者と結婚すると血縁関係が生ずるため、「自分の家系（息子、娘）の血が穢（けが）れるから」と反対する家族（親戚なども）が多くいた。内密に身元調査や聞き合わせを行い、部落出身者と分かると結婚を許さない例や、好きな人と一緒になることに妨げがあった。そのため部落民は部落民同士で結婚することや、仮に部落外の人と結婚できたとしても、それは親族の祝福がない駆け落ちであるなどのことが多かった。また、結婚差別に遭い、自ら命を絶つ者も多くいた。今でも、結婚に反対する傾向は少なからずあり、露骨に反対する場合・それ以外の理由に託けて反対する場合の両方がある。この問題があるため、現在はどの探偵業者も、“差別につながる身元調査はしません”と広告（主として電話帳）に注記している。

Although legallyliberated in 1871, with the abolition of the feudal caste system, this did not put an end to social discrimination against them nor their lower livingstandards because Japanese family registration was fixed to ancestral home address until recently, which allowed peopleto deduce their Burakumin membership.

The long history of taboos and myths of the burakuleft a legacy of social desolation and since the 1980s, more and more young burakuhave started to organize and protest againstalleged social misfortunes, encouraged by political activist groups. Movementswith objectives ranging from liberation to encouraging integration have beentried over the years to put an end to this problem.

  健二は、どうやって両親が調べたのか分からなかった。しかし、大正生まれの父の世代だと重大事なのかもしれなかった。貴子は、自分が部落出身だと思っていたのだろうか。

 

　  Kenji didn’t know howhis mother checked Takako’s family. However his father was born in Taisho era and it must be a big problem for them old people.  Was she reallyBuraku people?  Did she know it?

 

　　もしかしたら、私と結婚できるはずがないので二股をかけていたのだろうか。

「もし、そうだとすると、オレは貴子になんて酷いことを・・・」

 

   If she knew it and gave up marrying me, was that why she had twoboyfriends at the same time?  Then whatcold words I gave her!

　　

　　健二は、おそらく近いうちに上司の娘さんと結ばれて海外勤務につくであろう。自分の将来が何か、後ろめたい思いがした。

 

    Probably Kenji will marry a daughter of his boss and work in a foreigncountry.  He is thinking his future witha guilty conscience.

 

「貴子は、きっとご両親にとって希望を与えてくれる良い娘だったに違いないのに」。

 

  Takako must be a very good daughter for her parents who gave them brightfuture.
