Chapter 3 Ingenuity from Moderate Inferiority and Poverty 3.2.2.1 Effort (1)
Making efforts, I like this word the most. There is no progress without making efforts. There is no joy without making efforts, either. I believe the necessity to make an effort, so this "effort" is my favorite word.
On the previous page, I have written that no matter how small a venture business is, English ability is necessary to disseminate information in the age of internationalization and the age of the Internet. It takes effort and continuity to acquire and maintain foreign language skills to the level required for business.
According to the Asahi Shimbun on January 22, 2000, it was reported that IBM had stipulated the relationship between TOEIC scores and employees’ promotion and overseas business trips as follows. I think that this is not only applicable to office workers, but also to those who have started or are trying to start a venture business, so let me introduce it below.
TOEIC score |
Manager Job title |
Overseas business trip |
English level
|
600 points |
Equivalent to a section chief |
Short-term business trip |
A level that can be the strength of a company |
730 points |
Deputy manager equivalent position |
Long-term business trip |
Level that can handle all situations |
Reference) Average of university graduates; 440 points
It is one of the ideas that English is not necessary or irrelevant because we are Japanese. That is another fine idea, but I think it's a bit of a concern as a future businessman.
As many of you may know, TOEIC is an abbreviation for Test of English for International Communication. This is a certification test that determines our ability to communicate in English. Many companies today use this test to determine their employees' business ability and daily conversational ability in English. On the other hand, the Practical English Test (by Society for Testing English Proficiency, Eiken) has nuances as an English proficiency test for students.
Currently, English is the world language that has established itself as an international language. Unfortunately, Japanese is not an international language. Regardless of how English became popular, I think that English is a simple language to be accepted widely by many other countries.
